What Is A NightOwl Sleep Study?
A sleep study helps a healthcare provider diagnose someone with a sleep disorder. One popular test is the NightOwl device, a home sleep apnea test that monitors sleep patterns and helps identify potential sleep disorders using only a fingertip sensor. The NightOwl device is easily accessible, affordable, and easy to use in the comfort of a person’s own bed.
Who Should Use The NightOwl Home Sleep Test?
- Those who have symptoms of moderate to severe sleep apnea symptoms (snoring, gasping for air, morning headaches, difficulty concentrating, etc)
- Those who have been recommended by their doctor to take a sleep study
- Those who are not comfortable taking a sleep test in a lab or are not able to travel to a sleep study center
- Those who are on a budget
How Does NightOwl Sleep Study Work?
The NightOwl sleep study detects apnea events (cessation of breath) with the help of a sensor attached to a fingertip. The home sleep study kit uses both photoplethysmography and an accelerometer to record the data related to actigraphy, blood oxygen level, peripheral arterial tone, and Apnea-Hypoapnea Index (AHI).
Features of Home Sleep Apnea Test Equipment
Multi-night Evaluation – NightOwl Sleep Apnea Self-Test Kit
In some cases, it is important to get more than one night’s worth of data for an evaluation and your home sleep apnea testing equipment should accommodate that possibility to prevent a misdiagnosis.
Auto-scored – NightOwl Home Sleep Test
A home sleep test automatically stores data and AHI during your sleep. The device records all sleep data and provides you with your AHI score.
Reusable – NightOwl Sleep Study
No chance of exposure to any sort of contamination. Test for as many as 12 nights with a single–home sleep apnea test machine.
PAT-based – NightOwl Home Sleep Study Kit
Based on cumulative sleeping time, pAHI. PAT, actigraphy, and oximetry based. PAT or Peripheral Arterial Tonometry determines peripheral blood pressure and peripheral resistance.
DOT Certified – NightOwl Sleep Apnea Self-Test Kit
The NightOwl home sleep study kit completely meets the requirements for the DOT Physical Test.
NightOwl Benefits
Multi-Night Evaluation
The NightOwl Sleep Test sensors allow users to repeat the test on multiple nights to make it ideal for the proper diagnosis.
Self-Applicable
The design of NightOwl makes it one of the smallest OSA detection tools that are currently available on the market. The NightOwl uses only one finger sensor.
Fully Disposable
The NightOwl unit is disposable and can be used for up to 12 nights. It thus eliminates the possibility of infection and thereby avoids the risk of the dissemination of COVID-19.
Long Battery Life
The battery of the NightOwl sensor is very durable, and with a single charge, this home sleep apnea test machine can operate for around three nights.
Miniature Design
The architecture of the NightOwl device is a downsized version of polysomnography for OSA detection that yields an accurate OSA diagnosis. The NightOwl collects sufficient data without attaching multiple probes connected by wires to your body. It is both small and non-disruption to a good night of sleep, making it ideal for an obstructive sleep apnea diagnosis.
No Probes
NightOwl uses the calculation of the peripheral arterial tone without the use of pneumo-optic single-use probes, removing the requirement of a probe. It contains only one sensor, worn on one of your fingers and secured with the help of adhesive tape. NightOwl is an invasive alternative for your sleep apnea diagnosis.
